The Greater Houston Women’s Foundation was founded by a group of visionary women in the community who sought to create an organization of women that served other women in the Houston area, built on the foundational principle that a woman who controls her finances controls her destiny.
Motivated by the lack of organizations and funding dedicated to serving women and girls, the founding members of The Women’s Resource commissioned a number of research reports that examined how Houston corporations were sensitive to women’s issues and issued grants to programs that benefitted women and girls in the community.
“I found out that there were educated women – women who had gone through four years of college – who still had a flaw in their education as to how to be financially independent. And that is still a catastrophe today.” – Carole A. Pinkett, Founding Board Member
