The Women’s Resource of Houston Receives SunTrust Foundation’s 2019 Lighting the Way Award and $75,000 Grant

Recognized for its generous contributions to Houston, The Women’s Resource was awarded a 2019 Lighting the Way Award and $75,000 grant by the SunTrust Foundation.
The SunTrust Foundation’s Lighting the Way Awards recognize select nonprofit organizations that work to build self-sufficient families and more financially confident communities through financial education, financial counseling, career readiness/workforce development and small business/entrepreneurship.

The Women’s Resource is one of 36 nonprofits across the Southeast and Midwest presented with a 2019 Lighting the Way Award from the SunTrust Foundation, which gave a total of $2.7 million in grants to these nonprofits.
“We are grateful to the SunTrust Foundation for awarding this grant to support our work, particularly going into our organization’s 30th anniversary, and we are excited about the possibilities that will be created through this partnership,” said Christine Powell, The Women’s Resource’s Executive Director. “The Lighting the Way award will create opportunities for us to expand our public class offerings and allow us to continue our work to empower Houston’s women and girls to become independent, productive and financially stable.”
