A Celebration of Houston's Women Leaders
At The Women’s Resource, we envision a day when all women and girls have the knowledge, skills and confidence to make sound decisions for their financial futures. Our programs provide an educational foundation that will result in improved financial stability. The Annual Luncheon provides essential financial support for our clients. The support we receive from this event helps to ensure that the hundreds of women and girls we serve every year continue to have the resources they need to be independent, productive, and financially stable.

Featured Speaker
Sallie Holder
Once a Labor & Employment Lawyer with an impeccable ten-year track record, Sallie made her mark by mastering every facet of the employer-employee dynamic. Yet, beneath the surface, an entrepreneurial spirit was burgeoning. Transitioning from law to leadership, she embraced the entrepreneurial calling as CEO of Corporate & Tax Law Firm, and thereafter, the CEO roles for retail, real estate, and a sales company consecutively. In each, she became the catalyst for growth, significantly boosting sales by 70% year after year, revealing a talent for transformation that would define her career.
This knack for revenue generation caught the attention of fellow female entrepreneurs, inspiring the genesis of The BRIMM, her brainchild that empowers women with actionable sales strategies. Her journey wasn’t a steady ascent but rather a tapestry woven with success and setbacks, each thread a lesson that shaped her approach. Recognizing the absence of a sales strategy blueprint that catered to the unique hurdles faced by female entrepreneurs, she created TSA – a comprehensive system addressing the real challenges in achieving sustainable business success.
Today, she’s a testament to self-worth in business, unafraid to set boundaries and only accepting work that sparks a resounding “YES.” She’s crafted the very existence she once dreamed of, all while guiding others to do the same.
The evidence of her impact is not just anecdotal; it’s quantifiable. Hundreds of success stories echo her effectiveness with female entrepreneurs.
Her journey is not just able the businesses she’s built or the sales she’s increased; it’s about the lives she’s changed and the dreams she’s turned into tangible realities. It’s a story of empowerment, strategy, and the relentless pursuit of growth – not just for herself, but for the countless women who’ve followed her path.
2024 Luncheon Chair
Carrie Colbert
Carrie Colbert excels at the crossroads of creativity and commerce. With nearly two decades in the energy industry, she now focuses on empowering women by breaking down funding barriers for female founders and demystifying venture capital for potential investors.
Hailing from a small Texas panhandle town, she became the first in her family to graduate from college, graduating at the top of her class in petroleum engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. While working, she also received her MBA from UT. She spent over a dozen years at Hilcorp, the largest privately owned oil and gas producer in the US. She embraced the energetic, entrepreneurial environment at Hilcorp as the company scaled from millions to billions in enterprise value. Having equity in the company proved life-changing, as she was able to “retire” from that industry at age 38 to pursue other interests and passions.
Embracing her creative side, Carrie built a following of 85,000+ on @carriec Instagram and a popular blog. Fortuitously, building an online presence proved pivotal for Carrie’s next professional adventure. Through life as a social media influencer, Carrie began connecting with women-owned brands, advising them, and investing her own money into these female-founded businesses. After five years of angel investing, Carrie realized the arbitrage opportunity for investing in female-founded consumer brands was great! Women-led businesses are underfunded, yet overperforming, so that creates an opportunity to earn outsized returns.
With that thesis in mind, Carrie launched Curate Capital in 2021 to support female-founded consumer brands. Carrie and team closed fund 1 in 2022 at $15 million – 50% oversubscribed, with nearly 80% of investors being women, including influencers with over 10 million followers. As an influencer herself, Carrie realized the power of influencers investing and has been a pioneer of the #influentialinvesting concept. Curate plans its second fund in 2024.
Aside from her role at Curate Capital, Carrie serves on the Cockrell School of Engineering advisory board and actively attends The Story Church. She also dedicates time to serving the homeless community weekly. She’s a sought-after speaker for female entrepreneurs. Above all, Carrie takes pride in being a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Elle, and three-year-old son, Luke.
